How do individuals and societies deal with the final stages of life and consciousness? What happens to our identity, body and mind when memories fade? This interactive format blends neurological research, artistic expression, personal stories and humor to deliver surprising insights.
The living dead
We are confronted with more and more aging bodies, kept alive by medication and machines. Yet the minds and souls formerly housed in these bodies vanish and fade.
In this mixed format TeeKay explores illnesses like dementia as an invitation to rethink presence, memory, and identity. He challenges taboos around aging and dying, reframing them with dignity, creativity and a necessary sense of humor. He questions individual as well as collective concepts and invites the audience to explore how a stubborn “Never gonna give up!” might be transformed into a “Smart ways to let go”.
Involving the audience also by dance, indivual movements and contacts create a possibility to understand dementia not only as loss, but as another form of presence. Which aspects of life do incapacitated individuals and their friends and/or relatives have to give up while dementia eats away the personality?
Science meets emotion, movement meets medicine—a space for new perspectives on age, death, and dignity.
